New Screenshots have surfaced on the internet of DotA 2 or Defense of the Ancients 2. DotA, for those who don’t know, is an insanly popular custom game map for the also popular Warcraft 3 strategy game. Since it’s premier on the custom game field of WC3, DotA has branched out and many spin-offs have been developed. DotA is just one of the many WC3 custom games that have found themselves being adopted and turned into full games. Even so, DotA 2 seems to be getting the all-star treatment.
Two of the most popular spinoffs who have rode the wave of success of DotA, Heroes of Newerth and League of Legends may have something to fear with this new development. Rather than a spinoff this is a full retail standalone sequel to the original DotA created by none-other than Valve Software with permission from one of the original creators “Ice Frog”.
Along with the familiar gameplay elements returning will also be many of the characters from the original DotA map series. While these other games can have copy characters, in the end I don’t see their fan-bases holding out against a sequel developed by such a well known studio. If Valve does anything right, it is competitive online games. Certainly this game will be a force to be reckoned with.

Doombringer! Lucy is back!
I’m disappointed by how that looks, but I know it’s not a finished product. I doubt I’ll give up my League of Legends for this and in fact, I hope Dota 2 drags some of the LoL dregs away! I refuse to support IceFrog in any fashion, but wish Valve all the best with their knockoff of a knockoff of a knockoff.
