VidRhythm Review

VidRhythm, Harmonix’s latest offering on iOS, is quite the oddity. Better known for their games Dance Central and Rock Band, their latest app, VidRhythm, is not a game at all. Games usually have the possibility of losing but this app only makes things that win. Using quick one second video and audio clips you create, VidRhythm strings together the clips to create mash-up musical pieces from one of twenty different songs and Harmonix even promises the ability to create your own songs in a future update. Pick one of the several video templates to give your song a look all it’s own.

Saving and sharing your creations is made as simple as possible thanks to YouTube and Facebook integration. You also get a copy of your video in your camera roll if you need more export options. You will want to share your creations thanks to how hilarious they will end up. Things can get really creative if you decide to deviate from the recommended sounds and sample anything you can capture. A friend laughing might just be that perfect drum sound. Quick, get that duck quacking for a baseline!

One of the many templates available

This app is one of the most fun toys I have ever played on my iOS device and I feel that it’s not only a great download, it’s mandatory. This is the perfect app to play with your friends and have a blast being creative. I liked it so much I even decided to relay the score in the form of a mash-up!

Pros:

  • 20 Songs to create mash-ups with more coming in a future update
  • Very simple to pick up and create with
• Great sharing options

Cons:

  • Even though 20 songs is a lot, you will find yourself wanting more
  • Would have liked to see remixes of real songs

Score:

5/5
