Sam’s Top 10 Games of 2011

Sam's Hungry to Share his Top 10 Games of 2011

[10]. Pokemon Black/White

Black and White offered an experience not seen since the original games. Only new Pokemon are catchable forcing players to abandon their favorites like Zubat. The new Pokemon aren’t the most original group on the block but it truly feels like a whole new world, and I still have a desire to someday catch them all.

[9].Portal 2

What made the original Portal good was the twists and turns of the narrative at the end of the game. Portal 2 has a narrative flowing throughout the story but the real gem this time is the Co-op experience. Offering the tightest co-op experience ever seen in gaming that becomes truly impressive when you and your partner become one. At some point you’ll know what your partner is thinking and react before they can speak. Valve you scare me.

[8]. Super Mario 3D Land

Take note everyone, this is what the 3DS is capable of and it is glorious. Mario 3D Land is a fully 3D platformer that works better than Mario 64, Sunshine, and both Galaxy titles. The game feels a little easy though until you unlock the 8 Special Worlds for beating the game, then the difficulty ramps up.

[7]. L.A. Noire

Forget the drama behind Team Bondi or the fact the interrogation choice of Lie was supposed to be Push. LA Noire pulled a fast one on how much of the game was GTA-like and how much of it resembled an adventure title. The game can be split into interrogation and investigation, with both being executed well. Driving and shooting are minimalized in a sandbox title and it’s a strange concept to believe.

[6]. Mortal Kombat

A selection of great DLC but a shaky online could ruin most games chance of making a top 10. Luckily the combat is excellent and the best the series has ever seen. The challenge tower will keep players coming back and the story mode is brilliant. A retelling of the entire franchise that takes turns in the story that will leave players jaws on the floor. I was never a huge fan of Mortal Kombat, luke-warm at best, but this game changed it. Just next time a better online is needed.
