We previously reported that the latest and final version of Virtua Fighter 5 would be hitting consoles sometime this summer. SEGA has officially revealed the release date now to be June 5th, 2012. Final Showdown is an updated version of VF5 that introduces 2 new characters and new dynamic stages as well as a slew of balance and gameplay changes and new moves for every character.

The game will retail for $14.99 on PSN and 1200 MSP on XBL. Both versions will support online play. However, the game is the base game with zero customization items. If you want to customize your character as you could in 4: Evo and 5, you’ll need to purchase customization packs which cost $5 per character or 400 MSP. Each pack includes 600-900 items per character. You can also purchase combo packs which include half the rosters items in each for $14.99 each or 1200 MSP. In total, to get the game and all items it will cost you $45 which is still cheaper than a brand new retail game.

As well, if you only want the base game with just the fighters it only costs you $15. And if you only want the items for your main char, that’s $20. No matter how you slice it, it’s a bargain deal.

The only downside is that SEGA has confirmed that if other players don’t have the downloaded item pack for your character, they won’t see your customization items and vice versa. No word yet on whether they’ll be releasing a compatibility pack or not.

VF5:FS hits consoles in 3 weeks, and yours truly will be on board day one.
