Everyone’s nightmare, Freddy Krueger, makes his way into the Mortal Kombat fighter’s dreams. Freddy fits so well into the game with his background as a killer. Speaking of style, his costume may look like something that’s from one the movies but it’s actually a new costume designed just for MK. It’s very surprising to see a character such as Freddy on MK. Freddy’s move list makes some use of his Clawed gloves and some of his own powers he has in dreams, as if his Clawed gloves weren’t already enough to leave fighters a bloody mess.
Hell Spike: Digging his claws in the ground, he can cause his claws to enlarge and reappear from underground. This move ranges to Close, Medium, and Far. Hitting opponents with the Hell Spike launches them into the air, a great combo starter. Enhancing it to Hell Blast, inputting either the Close, Medium, or Far command, the spikes with automatically appears anywhere your opponent may be. The move also increases in damage and does 10%. Hitting enemies with it adds a few more seconds to the stunt letting you score another hit if you’re quick.
Sweet Dreams:Freddy summons a green orb that falls on the opponent wherever they are and causes them to fall asleep for a short time doing a bit of damage as well. A great move to catch opponents off guard when they’re about to stand back up. This enhances to Deep Sleep which adds extra damage but doesn’t seem to extend the time your opponent stays asleep.
Glove Toss: If you couldn’t have guessed it, Freddy sends one of his gloves to fly towards his opponents. Enhanced Power Glove Toss, Freddy sends both of his gloves flying causing more damage and knocking opponents back if hit. What better way to make a projectile for Freddy.
Freddy Fingers: Unlike the glove toss, this projectile works as a low hit. Freddy send one of his gloves quickly running towards opponents. Freddy’s Edge sends both gloves running with extra damage. The move can easily score one more hit before your opponent hits the ground.
Dream Shift: Like Scorpion when teleporting back to hell, Freddy steps in flames and teleports either towards or away from your opponent depending on the command you input. Enhanced to Hell Shift, the move allows you to cover more ground when teleporting.
X-Ray Attack – What A Rush: Freddy uppercuts the opponent, then impales them with his claws through the chest, breaking the ribs and puncturing the lungs. Then he swipes the opponent across the face, cracking the skull.
One thing that was on my mind was how exactly will Freddy be a part of the Mortal Kombat universe? As always, Freddy feeds on the souls of the living as they sleep. As Shao Kahn began to steal the souls of Earthrealm – souls that Freddy considers his own – Freddy fought against him in the Dream Realm. Shao Kahn’s will being too strong, pulled Freddy into the real world making him mortal then defeated him. Freddy badly injured, he was determined to kill Shao Kahn and find a way back to the Dream Realm, where he will haunt the souls of Earth Realm for eternity. Beat Freddy’s Ladder to find out what happens next.
Freddy overall is an awesome character to join the MK roster. He has a wide range of combos but not all his combos really seem to let you pull off his moves at the end of them. It’ll take some time to actually master Freddy. I couldn’t make up that many combos myself with him but I did make up a few. To me, Freddy seems like a mid-difficult character to use. I would like to see Freddy be more involved in an upcoming Mortal Kombat game’s story, seeing as he does have his own Realm. Warriors watch out, Freddy is coming for you!
